Nightsky's Choice -- Ch. 26The days passed slow as the moon changed shape to announce a full moon. Nightsky had clung to life from the belly wound that had almost ended her on the spot. But from the rise and fall of her flank, you could tell that her breathing was becoming stronger and stronger each day. Chemicalheart made sure of that.
Clan life was the same. Cinderpaw had been forced to sleep in the elders den; a wide open space that she could sleep after the peaceful death of Whitewhisker. Nightsky's Choice -- Ch. 25"Finally, they're leaving!" Yowled Moonheart, who had come back from checking the border not long before. She was right; the Clan had pulled through and had chased off the rest of the foxes; showing that ShadowClan was not a Clan to be messed with.
Winterflower only noticed Chemicalheart rushing to her den to inspect the wounds on her apprentice. As she looked at Cinderpaw, she realized that she was not as hurt as she thought; only her tail was crushed under the large rock. Delicately, and with Willowcloud at her side, they slid the apprentice out, the blood around her paws making her almost sick.

it is a town climbed up from the sea:
a salt hymn, an exhalation, a brightly calcified
spray. the houses here are overgrown
as wildflowers, paths like tiny winding veins
sprung alive between them. from my balcony i watch
the sun crest slowly into afternoon,
and mothers lead their children
down stone slopes, arterial pull
to the water. by the shore,
vendors sell bottles of olive oil, salt,
sage, gathering up anything with the taste
of what mystery inhabits the air—brimming over
the glass lips, a curving kind of joy,
the whole earth, a bowl of it.
